H.C. Andersen

"Welcome to a fairytale adventure with H.C. Andersen"

  • We will meet in front of the H.C. Andersen statue on City Hall Square at 4:30 PM, where today's storyteller will welcome you.
We’ll begin with a brief introduction to H.C. Andersen, his life, and his working methods – and then the journey begins.

  • Along the way, we’ll pass through the city gate (now gone) through which H.C. Andersen first arrived in Copenhagen, visit the location of his first overnight stay, and see Copenhagen Cathedral, from where he was laid to rest.

  • We’ll end at Restaurant Det Lille Apotek, where H.C. Andersen himself once dined.
You will have pre-ordered your menu, but you’ll choose your drinks on-site (which are included in your ticket). Once the food is served, we’ll shortly begin the fairy tales.

  • These won’t be the classic international H.C. Andersen stories, but rather the ones most beloved by the Danes themselves.

  • Naturally, there will be artistic pauses, giving you time to order another drink, stretch your legs, or visit the restroom.

  • A little before 7 PM, we’ll wrap up and say our farewells – the city is now yours to explore.

  • We’ll be happy to share our favorite tips on where to find a cozy café or a good pub.

The Menu

The menu features one of the great Danish national dishes: roast pork with caramelized potatoes, boiled potatoes, homemade cucumber salad, homemade red cabbage, and gravy. (If you are a vegetarian, please let us know.)

Included in the price is your choice of a soft drink, a draft beer (40 cl), or a glass of the house wine.

The Restaurant – Restaurant Det Lille Apotek

Det Lille Apotek is one of Copenhagen’s oldest eateries, with a history dating all the way back to 1720. The charming interior exudes nostalgia and coziness, and here you can enjoy authentic dishes from the traditional Danish kitchen.

As H.C. Andersen himself was a guest at Det Lille Apotek in 1854, the restaurant offers the perfect setting for a journey back in time in the spirit of the famous fairy tale poet.

You’ll find the place at Store Kannikestræde 15, 1169 Copenhagen K.
